HDMI Sound Out Issues

I have a MacBook Air M2. It has been a great computer. I often have my Mac connected to an external monitor for work via HDMI through a USB-C dock. When I go to settings and change audio out to HDMI, the audio does not consistently come through and sometimes shuts off all together. I either have to function through the internal speakers, send a signal to a bluetooth speaker, or connect external speakers. Has anyone else found this issue with this? Or does anyone have input on what to do?
