I will be getting a new iMac (2024) Sonoma OS and need a proven reliable multifunction inkjet printer that will be compatible with that operating system. I prefer it to be wireless capable with print, copy and scan features.

If there were only one best printer there would not be literally thousands of printers and multifunction devices from which to choose. To narrow that list down to a manageable few, I highly recommend reviewing MrHoffman's User Tip: Which Printer Should I Buy? - Apple Community.

Having said that the only inkjet printers and multifunction devices I use any more are Brother. I absolutely positively will not consider HP, ever. Never again. Of the remaining few general purpose consumer grade devices both Canon and Epson fall between those two extremes. If price is no object Canon makes some high end devices that are excellent, but "high end" and "inkjet" don't often go together.

I decided I do not really need color printing, and if I really want something printed in color, I'll take a USB Thumb drive to the local drug store (pharmacy, Chemist, etc...), or Staples in the U.S. or a camera store that will create quality color prints.
My home printer is a Black & White Brother multi-function laser printer model MFCL2750DW with AirPrint support (no vendor drivers needed to print, scan, FAX or use as a copier over my home network). It even accepts 3rd party toner cartridges (Yea!).
NOTE: My previous multi-function printer from a different vendor also had AirPrint support, and it ALWAYS worked with my Macs for over 12 years, and I never had to install the other vendor's print drivers (lightening strike took it out). I've had the current printer about 9 months and it is working flawlessly in my home environment. My Wife prints more than I do, but we just went through tax season, and there is a lot of printing happening then.
AirPrint. AirPrint. AirPrint. AirPrint. Absolutely, positively, always AirPrint.
