Not all websites support Reader View. Here is one that does to use as an example:

The Reader View icon should appear on the left side of the Search Bar as shown here:

If you are having a different issue with Reader View, please describe it here. Confirm your OS version is 10.11, as that may make a difference as well.

Ok, I am on Sonoma 14.5 as well.

  • When you hover over the Reader Icon, does it say "Show Reader View" in the Search Bar?
  • Do you have any Extensions installed on Safari?
  • When going to the page linked in the previous post, can you do the Keyboard Shortcut: Shift-Command-R
  • In Safari when you are on that page, can you go to View > Show Reader? Is it greyed out?
  • Does it work when starting in Safe Mode? Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

I have seen other reports where it does not work, but none of those seem to come up with a solution. Some users had success with a OS reinstall, but that seems kind of drastic for this one simple operation to work. An Extension is the most likely thing that I could see that would cause a conflict.

  • Do you have any Extensions installed on Safari? Yes
  • When going to the page linked in the previous post, can you do the Keyboard Shortcut: Shift-Command-R I can do it and the Reader icon goes dark but Reader still does not work.
  • In Safari when you are on that page, can you go to View > Show Reader? Is it greyed out? I can to to "View Show Reader" and click it, the Reader icon in the address field darkens but Reader does not work.
  • I am trying the Safe Mode now and will report on how it works.
