How can I restore Reader View on Safari?

One of the best functions of Safari was the “Reader View” imo. It has now disappeared. I know you can drill down and select “show reader automatically” but it STILL doesn’t appear for ANY websites as far as i can see. Also tried long press on the square/2lines icon in the address bar. Still Nada. If any devs are reading this fix please. Anyone figures out any workarounds yet?

It's utterly infuriating. I can only think it's a move intended to force ad viewing.

Who is going to spend minutes poking about a web page to remove distracting items before you can read it?

Luckily you can still press Shift+CMD+R to toggle the previous Reader View.

How long that will last I don't know.

Ironically it was Safari's excellent reader view on my girlfriend's iMac that made me give Macs a try ... and I've never looked back.

Totally agree. If you hit a page infested with adware it takes FAR too long to select all the offending items - blocking pop ups which I’ve always had on helps, but still.

Oddly enough the “select reader for all pages option by default” now seems to have started working after multiple reboots and a few days to settle in. It didn’t work at all for the 1st 48 hours. Also works on some coded web page versions for the iPad and not iOS.

But definitely a retrograde step by some clever coder who doesn’t appear to have actually compared the comparative functionality of pre and post iOS reader versions.

It's gone, probably for good.

But you can still use the View menu or the keyboard shortcut Shift+Command+R to toggle Reader View on or off.

When they kill that, hopefully Firefox will improve their reader view which us usable, but not as efficient or attractive as Wpple's.

Sadly it was one of the best features of Safari. I simply cannot understand why they've done this.
