apple watch 8 microphone failed

I have a watch 8 (now out of warranty), it just started having microphone problems this week. Siri can't understand commands, Noise level incorrect. Support unable to fix the problem. Amazed to learn that sending it in for repair is only $60 less than buying a new watch! I know I should expect this, but jeez!

The problem seemed a bit better after unpairing and reconnecting, but still not functioning the way it used too. Obviously I'm disappointed

I understand that I made a choice when I opted not to purchase AppleCare. The debate over the value of extended warranties is indeed subjective; some view them as essential, while others see them as a way for companies to boost revenue from their products.

While $69 seems like a reasonable price to replace a small watch screen without AppleCare, I believe that generally repair costs should not be so close to the cost of replacement. From a consumer perspective, it feels disproportionate.

I recognize that Apple’s ecosystem is compelling, and from a business standpoint, their pricing strategy is effective. Despite my frustration, I’m unlikely to switch to another platform as I don't see a superior alternative on the horizon.

On a positive note, there was a recent software update, so this could potentially be a software-related issue that might resolve itself. Support didn’t indicate any known issues, but I’ll keep an eye on it. If the problem persists, I’ll consider a replacement in the fall.
