Updated to IPADos 17.5.1 !! now all my photos are gone

Are you certain that you photos were actually synchronised with iCloud Photos?

If you were not synchronising your iPad's Photo Library with iCloud, your missing photos may have been saved to an iCloud or iTunes backup. If you do have a pre-existing backup, that has not been refreshed since the local copy of your photos were lost, you may be able to restore the backup to your iPad:

If you don't have a backup, your photos may have been irretrievably lost.

Are the photos available when logged into iCloud Photos at iCloud.com ?

Using a web-browser, sign-in to your iCloud account:

https://icloud.com

You may be able to recover any deleted photos yourself:

Delete and recover photos and videos on iCloud.com – Apple Support

So that’s six photos visible when you log into iCloud.com?

Contact Apple Support, and ask them to look at this.
