MacBook screen damage question

I got my MacBook M1 16 for for an arm and a leg $3700 to be specific, I hardly even take it out. Before that I had a 2014 Mac I used for over 6 years. I took my M1 Mac to the office today, printed a 6 page document and placed it between the screen and keyboard. I picked up the laptop to work after midnight, to my surprised my screen is messed up. I am a bit confused and so is my wife, an expensive device just have a screen messed up like that.

If the screen is pushed too far back, it can be messed up. That's why you feel resistence when you push the screen back, so you don't accidentally damage the computer. Bumps, drops, spills can all cause screen damage. Before transporting the computer, put in a padded case and shut down. If you bought AppleCare Plus you might have some accident damage protection. Your homeowner/rental insurance may also have some accident protection for computers. I don't recommend stacking the computer with heavy books in any manner.

One inexpensive way to usually work with damaged screens, is just to buy an external display, and when you start up the machine, immediately close the screen. That forces the display onto the external screen, and you can add an external keyboard and mouse too.

I don't believe it was the six page report that damaged the screen. A 25 page report, maybe. There is something else that is unobserved that caused it.

Nothing should ever be placed between the screen & keyboard since there is very little clearance when the lid is closed. As you have discovered it does not take too many sheets of paper to cause the screen to crack. Also, do not use any camera covers since they will easily crack the glass around the camera as well. I'm sorry you had to discover this the hard way.

Plus, even if you place just a single piece of paper between the screen & keyboard with the lid closed you may find the laptop will wake up from the paper pressing against the keys or trackpad since pressing any key or the trackpad itself will power on/wake the laptop which could be detrimental as well since the laptop may become overheated & drain the battery when you travel.
