Port Scan in Terminal (macOS 11+)

This question was asked in 2020 and the answers were, IMO, a little lacking in helpful details, so I am re-asking simply to provide an actual example of the terminal equivalent.


With the retirement of the GUI Network Utility, underlying terminal commands are needed to access the equivalent functionality. Most are obvious, but how do you port scan?

The 'nc' command can do this as follows:


nc -z ip_or_hostname_of_target port_range


e.g.


nc -z 192.168.0.10 10-1000


The command is still there at least as far as Sonoma
