No Mac driver for Samsung ML-2160 printer (2024-Sonoma 14.5)

Hi,

The drivers from HP via the Samsung ML-2160 series support page (Samsung printers are now part of HP) appear to be for older Mac operating system versions only.

Would your printer possibly be compatible with the V3.93.08 universal driver at

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/SS/Print_Common_SW/Samsung_Mac_Driver_V3.93.08.dmg [this is a direct download link]?

Look upon this as an experiment. It may not work at all. You may have to select a different model (perhaps something like an M2020, or M2070?) if there is not an entry in the universal driver for your exact ML-2160 series printer.

As always, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files before testing anything. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.

The  old resource ‚free Gutenprint  5.3.3 driver —not past macOS Catalina in Fall 2019

Old Toad mentions “manufactures have drivers on their European websites for later systems versions than they do for the US. You might try perusing the European sites for the printer's manufacture to see if they have a later driver”

Apparently HP does not offer a driver for this printer that works with Sonoma. You can check out the link below where volunteers have written drivers for variety of printers which are no longer supported by the vendor.

VueScan is a paid product from Hamrick Software, a legitimate business, not a group of volunteers. Over the years, they have created over 7000 drivers for scanners, not printer drivers.

Gutenprint Supported Printers

GutenPrint had issues with their Mac Solution and Catalina. They have not updated their Mac client since 2019 and that may be an issue for those on Sonoma.
