HomePod not recognizing me

I’ve had my HomePod for over a year now. At first, it did everything perfectly. Ever since I gave my son (8) an iPad though, and he has his own Apple ID, HomePod won’t recognize me when I’m speaking. For example, if I’m walking by and ask Siri to add something to my grocery list, she’ll ask who is speaking (fine), and when I answer, she tells me I need to authenticate on my iPhone, which defeats the entire purpose of the HomePod. I do have recognize my voice on and personal requests turned on
