Currently, my iPhone is connected to my MacBook Air M1 through USB 3.1 Bus as you can see from the screenshot but I can't play DVDs or CDs through it although a CD is playing fine through the other USB2.0 HUB. Is the USB 3.1 Bus faulty or is it an issue with my Samsung DVD player model SE-208? I've cut off some of the data in my pics just in case there is a privacy issue. Thanks for any insight.

Your Samsung SE-208 is a bus powered USB 2.0 device. Further, it appears to be connected to a USB 2.0 hub (the "MT1887" device). Because it is USB 2.0 it will never be "connected" to the USB 3.1 bus. There is no reason to think your USB 3.1 bus is faulty.

I think this is what you are looking for - USB-A to USB-C adapter. There are many on the market. I suggest selecting one from OWC, Monoprice, Anker or other known names. Some just look like plugs, others have a short cable.
I've bought a new hub, a Prevo6-in-1 hub but my new problem is I can't eject the DVD. When I quit the DVD Player app. that cuts of the electricity to the player and the eject button doesn't work. Oh, I've found how to do it under Controls. I used to just press the button on the external DVD player.
Thank you for that reassurance which saves me visiting the Apple Shop and losing use of my machine while it is tested and repaired. Could I buy a different connector lead? I have a "peripheral" intermediate hub I plug the player into which is then plugged into the MacBook because the player's plug is the old kind of USB which is half an inch wide (as coloured iMac desktops used to have). Would Apple sell a suitable cable or should I visit one of the many general phone & tech shops?
Thanks, I found something in my local Euronics shops where they are always knowledgeable and helpful. They said that soon we won't be able to buy new DVD players so that is going to make a forty year accumulation of discs useless. I don't think I will buy any more music, ever.

For what it's worth, you can still buy VHS players on Amazon. Albeit, most of them are refurbished. But, I wouldn't panic just yet. ;-)
Weirdly, turntables seem to be a bit more future-proof than other media.
