How can I prevent my Apple AirTag from revealing my location history from other iPhones?

My Apple AirTag that is linked to my Apple account has been discoverable to other iPhones nearby. Which I know is normal, but somebody that I know that got the notification for the AirTag showed me what it showed them and it was showing them every location that I had been to recently. Like every single location, I went to it was on a map and showed every stop that I had made with my tag. Down to my homes location…

Hi Scherie96,

This notification is only triggered after an unknown AirTag is caught traveling with you for some time (several locations) - An update on AirTag and unwanted tracking - Apple. You don’t just get this notification passing by someone in the mall or even if you sit through an entire movie next to someone. There is no way to get/request this information. It is only triggered when it looks like an AirTag is tracking you.

The goal is to stop people from using these devices for stalking purposes. Meaning before this notification is triggered the individual (in this case your friend) has to be with you for multiple stops/locations. It will not show all locations either. It will show the most recent locations where the AirTag was tracking you.

TL:DR, your information is safe and protested and if you’re using AirTags for their intended purpose you’ll have no issues.
