Will a celluar iPad's GPS work with no sim?

I want to buy an iPad to use in my car for navigation.

I know the cellular version is required for an accurate location, but I do not want to buy an additional SIM plan.

By using my hotspot, will I still get an accurate pinpoint of my location?

While iPad GNSS/GPS features are entirely reliant upon the iPad's Cellular chipset, choosing a cellular model does not commit you to adding a cellular service plan for the iPad, but ensures that you have immediate access to GPS/GNSS positioning services.

If you are using the Cellular hotspot feature of iPhone or other Cellular phone to provide a cellular data connection, the GPS location generated by the phone is not shared over the tethered network connection. As such, your iPad will derive its location using its own GNSS/GPS receiver.
