According to the Technical Specifications, the USB-C cable in the box is a "USB-C Charge Cable (2m)."

MacBook Air (M1, 2020) - Technical Specifications - Apple Support

Apple probably didn't have a 240W charge cable until after they had adopted newer versions of the USB-C Power Delivery standard. (The original version topped out at 100W.). So this might be a newer cable.

240W USB-C Charge Cable (2 m) - Apple

The description says, in part "It supports charging of up to 240 watts and transfers data at USB 2 rates." So this cable would not be suitable for connecting a display or monitor. USB-C (DisplayPort) requires rates much, much higher than USB 2 rates.
