How can I add my Apple ID email address to iMessage?

Mac or iPhone?

1. Make sure you can sign in at appleid.apple.com with the Apple ID that is signed in on the device.
2. On iPhone, go to Settings > Messages, and turn off iMessage. On Mac, go to Messages > Settings > iMessage, and sign out.
3. Restart your device
4. Return to the setting and turn iMessage back on or on Mac, sign into iMessage again with the Apple ID used in the first step

If you are still having trouble:

• Turn off any VPN if you are using one
• Verify that the date and time are correct on your device, otherwise it may not activate.
• Make sure you can tap on your Apple ID at Settings > [name on top]. If it is greyed out or unable to select it, your Apple ID may be disabled or restrictions are preventing Account Changes.
