Logic Pro 11 on Mac book Monterey 12.7.5

Hi, this is a novice question so please forgive any naivety or stupidity. My son bought a second hand Mac book air 2017 that’s running 0S Monterey 12.7.5. He’s been using the free trial of Logic Pro to do his music A level. It’s expired now so I’ve given him the money to purchase it. However when he tries it says Logic Pro 11 is incompatible with the current OS. Is there anything we can do to get it working without buying a new MacBook ?

The latest version of Logic requires MacOS 13.5 or later and unfortunately you need a 2018 MacBook air or newer to install it. There is a workaround though that will allow him to download the latest version of Logic for his computer.

How to purchase older version of Logic for those without Ventura 13.5. You'll need to find someone with a mac that is running at least Ventura 13.5. Open the App Store. Log in with your user ID and purchase Logic. I'm not sure if it will try to download right away but if it does, I believe you can cancel the download.

Log out of the App Store for the newer computer.

Now go to your computer. I tried this on Mojave 10.14.6.

Open App Store. Login if you haven't. Select your account on the bottom left. Look for Logic Pro on your purchases. Do not click on Logic Pro itself. Click on the download symbol. It will bring up some message asking if you want to download the last compatible version. Click download and you should be good to go.

Yes, but keep this in mind. Since your son has an older Macbook Air he will only be able to download the last version of Logic that runs on Monterey 12.7.5. Also, the method I described works on the USA App store. The terms might be different in the APP store where you are located. You might want to call Apple Support or a local Apple store to verify it will work there. Hope it works out for your son.

Hi Morozco

thank you for taking your time to reply

as I understand, I login on someone else’s newer MacBook, buy logic to my account but don’t let it download, then on my sons device log back in, the download will be in my purchases and download it to the machine and it should work

is that right?

hope you don’t mind me asking but will this definitely work? The software is £199 so want to get it right
