Apple TV 1469 no airplay

I cannot connect my Apple TV (model 1469) with AirPlay. I have updated the software, and both the iPhone and Apple TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. Even with an Ethernet cable, AirPlay does not appear. I tried updating the software using DFU mode but still had the same problem. I also tried using another iPhone, a MacBook, and a different local Wi-Fi network, but the problem persists. I am sure it is a hardware issue or something else. Can someone please help me?

AirPlay requires that the Apple TV box is activated with an Apple ID account, and that it has the AirPlay functionality setting turned on.

- If activation failed, it would say so in Settings﹥General﹥About﹥…

- Verify that your are signed in with a valid Apple ID, for at least the iTunes Store.

- Verify that AirPlay is on in Settings﹥AirPlay﹥…

Not all streams can be send to Apple TV (3rd generation). Some content providers require an AirPlay 2 receiving device (i.e. 4th generation or later). Some content providers block AirPlay altogether.

I tried updating the software using DFU mode but still had the same problem.

Apple TV (3rd generation) had its last software update per 2022-03-14, getting version 7.9. There is no newer software for this model, nor will there be in the future.

Ok, let’s be methodical about it:

  • Does the Apple TV (3rd generation) stream anything on its own (without AirPlay involved)?
  • Have you verified that all devices involved connect to the same home network? E.g. a phone on cellular but not Wi-Fi wouldn’t be able to stream to Apple TV through the home network.
  • If your router or access point differentiates between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz as two network names (not recommended; better to combine under one SSID network name), then verify that devices connect to the exact same SSID network name.
  • If your router or access point has an optional “Guest network”, then that is for internet connectivity only, not for communication between devices on the home network. Don’t use that network for AirPlay purposes.
  • Keep it simple first: try screen mirroring the Home Screen or Desktop. When that works fine, then try making it more complex for other use cases.
