iphone photos changed to .mov from .jpg

why are some of my photos on my iphone (jpg)when downloaded to computer changing to (.mov)?

Just a hunch - you might have taken these photos as Live Photos. A Live Photo is a pair of a a high resolution still image (HEIC or JPEG) and a short video clip (MOV).

If your MOVs are a part of a Live Photo, you should be seeing an additional still image with an identical filename, but a different filename extension. If you do not want the video clip, keep just the corresponding high resolution still image.
