How to prevent the auto scrolling in WhatsApp

So whenever I open WhatsApp, I search for a message. I reply to it. Upon replying and exiting the screen, I get redirected to the top of the list again. So the next message which was in line goes down again. I have to scroll down to search for the un replied messages. It’s a tedious task to reply, and then scroll down again to find the unread unread messages. is there any way this can be rectified because in android if you exit out, the WhatsApp does not automatically scroll back to the top. Is it a feature of iPhone or is it a bug cause if it’s a feature? It’s quite annoying and frankly tiring.
