No timeline in iMovie

Double-clicking on the Projects thumbnail in iMovie 10.4 does NOT open a timeline, just the media viewer. What else can I do?

I'm new to iMovie and this is a most FRUSTRATING introduction!

Hi,

You must create or open a project to get a timeline.

  1. In the Projects browser, click Create New. If you're currently editing a movie, click the Projects button in the toolbar, then click Projects again to open the Projects browser.
  2. Click Movie. Your new project opens, showing the browser, the viewer, and the timeline.

Thanks, Rich. Apparently I clicked on the thumbnail and closed and opened iMovie often enough to produce a timeline. Now that I've got that far, I realise that I do not know what to do next. I've been using Macs and Apple apps for 30 years now -- but this one is so utterly different that I might give up. For the moment at least. Until I can find something specific about editing an existing movie, which is all I want to do. Sigh. Thanks again.
