Since updating to iOS 17.5.1 I have no service!

I updated my iPhone 13 two days ago and since updating my phone has no service. I tried a couple of different SIM cards… nothing. Followed all instructions online… nothing!

does anyone have any ideas? There’s no apple stores near me and my mobile provider are saying they can’t do anything as it’s not an issue with the sim.. HELP!

I've experienced similar issues with my iPhone 12 using iOS 17.5.1, where it wouldn't connect to the network and showed 'No SIM' in the settings, even though my other eSIM number worked fine. I tried various fixes, including removing and cleaning the SIM and slot, using a different SIM, performing a hard reset, and resetting all network settings. Each time, the SIM would work temporarily before dropping out again.

I even switched carriers, hoping to resolve the issue, but the problem persisted. Eventually, I switched to an eSIM with my carrier, which "fixed" the issue but wasn't ideal since I couldn't use my other eSIM simultaneously. Additionally, I faced another problem where I couldn't activate iMessage with my new carrier after porting my number.

What finally seems to have worked is turning off and deleting my NordVPN app. This allowed me to activate iMessage with my new carrier, and the other SIM card started working. After reinstalling and reactivating NordVPN, the SIM and network are still functioning for the past day.

I believe there's a software glitch in the latest 17.5.1 update, as I hadn't encountered any issues with my SIM card before. Hope this feedback helps!"

So not to be that guy that posts stuff that he got resolved and never gave an answer.

I had contact with Apple Support (rather pointless, but friendly to be fair) and the local genius bar business support (they were nice enough even though it was a private phone and happened by accident due to the horrific dial routing they have with all that fancy AI).

A good indicator that your iPhone has no hardware issue is if it activates after a full wipe or reset. Then it is unlikely the SIM module is broken.

Didn't help my case because I had to get my number up asap due to some really important things - so I went on to get a spare non-Apple device to get my number up. By this time I resetted everything twice out of despair and left it wiped for sending it in eventually. But getting my cell up for THE call was more urgent so I left it unattended for like 4h. Then I had to restore my backup again because I needed a TAN and getting the seed this way was much easier than ordering a new QR code. This time I noticed the "no SIM" sign was back on the top of the screen and when I inserted my SIM it worked again and every reboot since then was fine.

What I noticed and ASSUME was the issue in my very own case that setting up another device from scratch with all the updates and patches takes up to 4 hours even on rather stable 100mbps. So longer on 4G/5G propably. Anyhow since I was in a struggle and under stress I might have been too impatient with my resets so the blank software modules for the modem weren't even back up yet... Or it was a very silent patch by ISP to iOS - in which case the transparency is a blatant shame and the support being left in the unknown or not having the tools to properly diagnose is concerning.

Anyhow I hope someone googl'ing this might find relief in a similar situation.

TL;DR; Solution: Backup - Wipe - leave it online on factory settings for a few hours - restore backup and get a good night sleep despite the sour taste that left.

All the best

Hi, I hope this helps

(iOS 17.5.1)

Excuse my english i'm french

I've experienced this issue 2 times already in the last week. Here's what I suggest you to try :

1: Do a force/hard Iphone restart.

2: Go for a network settings reset.

3: Take out your SIM card on the Iphone that's not receiving any signal. Check if it works on another Iphone to make sure it's not a simple bad SIM card. If you see it's working on another device, try transfer it into an "esim". You may need to pass through your carrier service to do that.

4: Delete any VPN & device management profile on your Iphone (If this option works for you like me, reset your Iphone to factory default before reinstalling any profile)

5: Make a backup save via lcloud to make sure you don't lose any data etc. and go for a factory reset.

6: Contact apple support and pray they found something else to fix your problem that's not written here

In my case, I had a corporative device management profile installed on my Iphone (14 Pro Max) for work and after I removed my management profile, I've done a factory reset and everything works fine for now.

I can't guarantee this is a permanent fix because it happened to me 2 times in the last week. The first time it happened, I didn't factory reset my Iphone like I did the second time. I will keep you updated if the issue reappears.

I've seen people report this problem on few websites, I hope Apple will fix this soon.

Thanks for the pointless answer. There is countless issues and the apple store is overrun. After upgrading the SIM modules won't load even after suggested reboot, reset, testing other SIM etc.

The module - and all options - are gone.

OP - check if your SIM card works on another device.

Do you have any cellular options in your settings other than "configure"?

If no - contact Apple support and prepare for a way to the genius bar.

Dont' now if its software or hardware yet - will update if something worthwile comes up after my device returns.

My IPhone 12 Pro Max was working perfectly. Then the phone updated automatically to iOS 17.5.1 overnight, woke to find I had no cellular data service.

I contacted Apple, who were able to log on remotely to run the diagnostics scan, they advised that the cellular module/chip appeared to have burnt out or failed. This was also confirmed by an Apple store. They suggested it was probably just a coincidence or the phone had a existing weakness, rather than due to the update.

The tech. in the store said they never have Automatic Updates switched on. They always wait a while to see if there are going to be issues before adopting the latest iOS.

I'm now having to use an old Iphone 6 for cellular calls and the 12 on WiFi only, bit of a pain!

I bought an iPhone 12 mini and after the update 17.5.1 the cellular data stop working and two months later the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth stopped functioning too! I changed the motherboard and after the update the data also stopped everyone be selling their iPhones in my region after the update because the data stopped working and major issues started appearing after it! Apple is falling down after the iPhone 15 they been also caught collecting our personal data this company is falling apart!!

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
