Disable MacBook connection to personal hotspot on iPhone

When my iPhone 14 is near my MacBook Pro, the MacBook often loses the connection to my router and tries to use the personal hotspot on my iPhone even though I have turned that off on the phone. On the MacBook, the router is the only "known network" and it is set to "auto connect". The MacBook is running Ventura 13.5.2 and the iPhone is running iOS 17.5.1. Any advice? Thank you.

On your iPhone:

settings > Personal Hotspot > OFF

on your Mac,

settings/system preferences > Network > WiFi > Advanced > Wifi pane...

... lists "known" networks.

Remove your hotspot by selecting it and clicking the delete [-] button below the list

...

The Hotspot NAME will still appear on your Mac, but it will no longer be "joined automatically"
