Old MBP target disk not showing up in locations

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro, no disk issues, and I'm trying to do a manual transfer to my new 2023 MBP. I have set the old MBP as a target disk, plugged in via ThunderBolt, but do not see the disk in locations on the new host machine. My old MBP is plugged into power.

I see it as a network (we are on the same wifi) but that's a very slow transfer option, and it doesn't show content (just parent folders).

I have done the finder > settings option to make sure hard drives and external disks are visible.

Any help?

Do you have the floating target disk icon floating around the old Mac screen?

On the new Mac:

settings/ System preferences > Network ...

is ThunderBolt Bridge a listed networking method?

if not, your may need to ADD it using the Add [+] button under the list of interfaces..

and once you do, you may want to reconsider using Target disk mode on the old Mac at all. Consider Switching to ThunderBolt Bridge connection on the OLD Mac as well. That should give you "near-SSD drive" connection speeds (but a networked, rather than "local" type connection).
