How can I move files from a failing Intel MacBook Pro to a Silicon MBP with these restrictions?

I tried Target Disk Mode but I need to make the Intel target as it reboots and shuts down randomly for reasons unknown (it's a 2012). It seems I don't have the correct cabling or maybe it can't work this way when one of the machines is Silicon. In any case I'm hoping someone will have a creative solution as I have many gigs to move and miles to go before I sleep...

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.1

The internal drive can be easily removed from the 2012 MBP. With that done it's a simple matter to install the drive into an external case or use a drive adapter cable and connect it to the new MBP for access and copying.

Check macsales.com for external cases. Amazon is easy to buy from as well.
