Which Scanners are Compatible with MacBook Air 15?

Need to find a scanner that works with my MacBook Air 15. never thought about how old my printer/scanner was... Brother is not interested in Sonoma!

So I guess I need a new scanner/printer -- like yesterday. I've used Apple machines for 30 years, but I don't keep up with the reading: what's one that doesn't have personality problems with Apple? specifically Sonoma and going forward?

Okay, I suspect you meant Brother MFC-J895DW, and not MFC-J895OW.

That’s an AirPrint printer. Which is a good thing. A very good thing. It shouldn’t need vendor printer drivers. Or scanner drivers. At all.

Here’s the Brother manual: https://support.brother.com/g/s/id/htmldoc/mfc/cv_mfc690dw/use/PDF/PDF.pdf

First, ensure the latest printer firmware is loaded. See page 505 in the printer manual for the firmware update procedure.

Once the firmware is current, configure AirPrint and check if the scanner now works. AirPrint can be used for scanning on some multifunction printers in addition to printing, such as with this printer. According to the printer manual, the printer supports scanning using both AirPrint and TWAIN, which means the macOS Image Capture app may well work here, if AirPrint scanning somehow doesn’t. See page 170 in the printer manual for scanner-related info.
