Face recognition not working after update 17.5.1

I have a iPhone 13 and I ended up being locked out of my online banking app after I had tried several times to log in using facial recognition as I always do. I had noticed I was having to enter my PIN when opening my phone but didn’t really think much about it. Looked online to see if there was any mention of a problem with my bank’s banking app regarding face recognition but couldn’t find anything. However something came up mentioning problems with face recognition stopping working on iPhone after downloading update iOS 17 and as I had just downloaded 17.5.1 I determined that that was probably the cause of the loss of face recognition on my phone. I called my bank and spent 25 minutes talking to three different people before they were able to fix the problem and I could log in to my banking app again. During the conversation they asked if I had changed my phone recently which I hadn’t. They then said they would remove my phone from my account and then reinstate it and that is what finally enabled my bank to set up my online banking app again. As face recognition is no longer available on my phone I now have to use a digital secure key pin to log on to my online banking app. I maybe wrong but I believe the iOS 17.5.1 update and the fact that my bank had to remove my phone and then reinstate it, apart from disabling my face recognition, contributed to the problems my bank encountered with setting up my online banking again. Sorry about the screed but I thought this may be helpful for other iPhone users who have encountered a similar problem.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
