Apple Watch still connected to previous owner

previous owner of my watch is still showing it’s his account even after he disconnected his iCloud account. Is the only way for me to use watch is to pair his phone again to the watch & try to disconnect again ?

That is about the only way. Did the precious owner try this:

  • With a web browser, go to: https://www.iCloud.com and sign in with his Apple ID. Open Find My iPhone and select All Devices (at the top). Then click your Apple Watch, select 'Erase Apple Watch', and select Next until the device is erased. Finally click "X" next to remove the Apple Watch from his account.
