GPS indications are no longer working when copied into Photos for correct localization

I used to localise photos using precise GPS indications from Google Maps or any other application. The GPS indications were copied and pasted for each photo not localized by the camera (either Leica or Canon) into Photos. Those GPS are no longer recognized by Photos either on iPhone, iPad or iMac.

it is quite recent. How to debunk the issue ?

Previously I was entering the GPS indications using the format provided by Google Maps, for example (43.4262072, -1.6089445) in the “assign location” field. Now it is giving a location far away as if the application is not recognizing anymore this format.
I also tried the format provided by the Apple map such as 43,42608° N, 1,60895° O. Same type of problem with another location far away assigned, different from the first one.

In my setup macOS 14.5 pasting both:

43.4262072, -1.6089445

and:

43,42621° N, 1,60894° W

seem to work OK in Photos:

On the other hand, this is interpreted as east instead west:

43,42621° N, 1,60894° O

Is the system version shown below your question still valid "iMac 27″, macOS 10.13"? Or did you just install an upgrade?

For some coordinates we are getting occasionally locations assigned, that are way off. I noticed this first in 2020 on Catalina, see the post here: All coordinates pointing to the same place

Apple has fixed the problem in macOS 14 Sonoma, I can no longer reproduce it in the current system version.

I can still enter the coordinates in the format 43.4262072 -1.6089445 (without the comma).

For this particular coordinate pair both Photos and Maps will mark this place:

BTW, I am entering the longitude -1.6089445° as 1,60895 W (W for West, as it is a negative longitude) - and E for East for positive longitudes, when I want to indicate the direction by a letter. It might be different with the language set to French, where O=Oest might correspond to West. I prefer the international codes (E for East and W for West), because O would mean East on my Mac with German as the primary system language. The "O" would be very problematic around the German-french border.

Thanks
