Unfortunately, using two USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapters and an HDMI cable to mirror an iPhone to an iPad is not feasible. iOS and iPadOS do not support direct video input or HDMI input on an iPad. The adapters and HDMI cable method you mentioned is designed to output video from a device (like an iPhone or iPad) to an external display, not to input video to another iOS or iPadOS device.

However, there are a few alternative methods you can consider to mirror your iPhone to your iPad without needing Wi-Fi:

1. Third-Party Apps with Bluetooth or Wired Connections

Some third-party apps allow for screen mirroring over Bluetooth or a wired connection. You can search for these in the App Store. Examples include:

- ApowerMirror: It has a feature for mirroring over USB.

- Reflector: Another app that might offer some workaround solutions.

2. Personal Hotspot

If you have cellular data and your iPhone supports a Personal Hotspot, you can create a local Wi-Fi network using your iPhone's cellular data. Here's how:

1. Enable Personal Hotspot:

- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Personal Hotspot.

- Turn on Allow Others to Join.

2. Connect iPad to Personal Hotspot:

- On your iPad, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.

- Connect to the Wi-Fi network created by your iPhone.

3. Use AirPlay:

- On your iPhone, open Control Center.

- Tap Screen Mirroring and select your iPad from the list.

3. USB Connection with Third-Party Apps

Some third-party applications allow for direct USB connections for screen mirroring. These can be a good alternative when Wi-Fi is not available.

Limitations:

- Ensure both your iPhone and iPad are compatible with any third-party apps you choose to use.

- These solutions might have some lag or lower quality compared to traditional Wi-Fi-based methods.

For most users, the Personal Hotspot method is the most reliable when Wi-Fi is not available.

Thanks! The reason I asked is that I use an iphone for a hotspot but apparently am going over my hotspot allowance from my carrier, so i thought i’d try to get clever with a couple digital AV adaptors.

I appreciate your answer. I think the only repercussion from going over the hotspot allowance is that data is now slower coming in over it. I can live with that
