Cannot remove ApplePay from Uber

I have installed the Uber app to be able to book taxis on my iphone. Originally the only payment method I had easily available was ApplePay, so that is what I linked.

Because Uber unfortunately has a track record of getting hacked, what I wanted to do is link another payment method and remove my ApplePay option.

Unfortunately I can't seem to be able to remove it.

Uber Support are saying they cannot help - what I have to do is remove my bank card from my Apple wallet. Now, I still want to use my wallet as before and ApplePay as an option "in life" in general, I just want it gone from Uber.

Can anyone help? It would be great if there was some sort of option inside ApplePay where you could approve or unlink certain apps, but I can't seem to find that.

Apple Pay would be the safest method of payment of your worried about hacking of UBER. All the credit and debit cards in your Wallet app are encrypted and only your bank has the key to decrypt the information.

Here is a screen shot of the Uber app payment screen.

Apple Pay is hard coded into their Uber app and only Uber can edit their copyrighted code. What you can do is select another payment method. Such as one of the payment methods you can see in the screenshot above. But Apple Pay option cannot be removed from their app software.

Sorry, no option to remove Apple Pay.

Yes, Uber does not (cannot) store Apple Pay information or card details. If you enter individual card numbers, then that card is at risk of hacking into Uber.

No, they cannot pay via your Apple Pay. They would need your iPhone and your face to authorize a transaction.

Your card details are at risk when you swipe your card or insert the chip at a transaction terminal at a merchant’s location.

Apple Pay never shares information with the merchant, except what’s required to complete the transaction. The merchant never sees decrypted card details.
