Where Do I Find SMB Version on iMacs (Sonos Issue)

As some may know, Sonos abruptly stopped supporting NAS drives (USBs) for music library storage. Their moderators and support team reply that the SMB v1 protocol will no longer be supported with their new, hapless app. This issue has effected A LOT of users.

I have two iMacs: A late 2015 model using Mojave (it works for me) and, one that's only two years old running Ventura. Both accessed USB drives to play music and worked perfectly. I can play music from the desktop controllers on my iMac but, nothing from the iOS iPhone app. It does not list my Music Library at all. I'm at wits end.

Does anyone know what SMB versions the Mac OS utilizes and/or where is that found? Yes, I have SMB selected in File Sharing.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.14

Thanks, BDAqua.... No, I don't want to force it use SMB v1. According to Sonos' divine plan in "updating" their apps to end support for HTTP and SMB v1 NAS (External USB drives included), I wanted to see IF my iMacs were utilizing SMB v1 because, like others, Sonos moderators and Support are saying that the connection to the drives housing the music libraries is failing due to drives utilizing SMB v1 and not 3 or 4. I wanted to do my due diligence and find out exactly what my two iMacs are up to (one is on OS Mojave and the other Ventura) to make sure I wasn't out of compliance.

Sonos has really screwed the pooch on this one as many people utilize external storage to house large music libraries, especially non-streamers like myself. Apparently, they deemed them too much of a potential security breech and... here we all are. No problem with security now as many of us can't play anything on their speakers.

I do appreciate you taking the time to reply, BDAqua. It means alot. I'll pass on the "Since MacOS 10.10..." information you relayed to me on the Sonos Community Forum.

Sincerely... Brad

Hi, BDAqua... I don't know if I understand the "smbutil statshares - a contains up to SMB3.2". By my not getting a readout after plugging that into Terminal does that mean I don't have an SMB share of any kind or, I'm covered up to SMB3.2 since I use Mojave? Sorry, but I only became aware of this SMB stuff when Sonos decided to fix something that wasn't broken. Thanks again.

BDAqua and VikingOSX.... I apparently do not have a Network anything on my upstairs iMac as I check "Connected Servers" in the Finder window as recommended by BDAqua and.... nothing appeared in the sidebar. I'll do the same on our newer iMac downstairs - the one that we connect the USB drive to that contains the Sonos music library feeding that area of the house. None of this stuff makes sense to the Sonos users who choose to store their music on a NAS/NAD instead of streaming. They chose to fix something that wasn't broken.

This could be another stupid question but, here's where the SMB connection is made on my iMacs. AFP is the Apple protocol so... should I check that box as well? Apparently I didn't need that prior to Sonos "updating" their app(s) but, maybe I should now. It shows File Sharing "Off" but, I've made sure it's been checked on in the Sharing preference pane.

I would have replied MUCH earlier if I'd known you'd replied. Disk Utility showed nothing having to do with SMB protocol on the drive. I contacted Samsung's tech division and they told me that function/protocol isn't directed by the Samsung SSD drive; it's directed by the USB hub on the iMac. So, your posting about SMBv1 not being around since OS 10.10.x is sound. Myself and A LOT of other Sonos customers are at a loss as to what to do next.

Thanks, BDAqua and, again, I apologize for not responding sooner.
