Locate QuickenBackup data in my External HD Time Machine backup

For some unknown reason (other than updating Quicken) the last year and a half of backup files have disappeared.

I have a Mac Book Pro running Monterey 12.7.5.

I use Parallels Desktop 18 for Mac

Windows 10

Quicken Classic Business and Personal (subscription)

All software (except OS X being Monterey) is up to date.

After running what I thought was a Quicken update 6/4/24 I opened Quicken and it displayed data from February 2023. If that wasn't weird enough the Quicken version was Quicken Home business and Rental 2015.

I was able to restore Quicken back to the current Classic Business & Personal from Time Machine backup but for the life of me I can't find my Quicken data backups in Time Machine.

I can go into the VM and locate the path for the backups (This PC/Local Disc (C:)/users/administrator/Documents/Quicken/BACKUP) but the most current backup is from February of last year (and earlier). But I can not locate this path in the TM backup.

I've tried using the search in Time Machine and it returns nothing.

I can locate the Parallels, Windows, and Quicken software but no documents. I can't even locate the Documents folder (or the other folders- ie photos, downloads,desktop..).

Quicken is the only thing I run in the VM and the only data (other than the software already listed) in the VM are my Quicken backups.

I've never needed to use TM so I'm hoping and praying that it's just my ignorance that's the problem.

Can't tell you how much I appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks for the going forward advice BUT the problem is that I need my data to move forward and that is what i really need some help with.

No chance that I inadvertently moved the files into the cloud - I don't use the cloud. I have 3 external HD and use TM. 1 of the drives is used daily. The other 2 are used monthly, at a minimum, just in case my main ext. HD should fail.

Also, No chance that I inadvertently clicked or a mouse move occurred. I opened Quicken and, as happens from time to time, got a prompt to update the software (usually patches or an updated release). After the 'update' finished and the app opened it was with the Feb 2023 data. I then looked into Windows folders icon and discovered what is in my original posting.

I've used Quicken for our business and personal accounting for nearly 25 years so I'm relatively familiar with how it works - although certainly no expert, not even close. When we moved to Mac (2019) I started using Parallels, Windows, and continued to use Quicken Home & Business. I load and configure all the software myself. So again, no expert, but have a decent working knowledge. I'm very, very careful (there is nothing on the VM but Quicken), because I am solely responsible for our financial accounting and this is our livelihood.

What I'm not familiar, and need help with, is finding where TM saves this info. in the backups. I know which date I need to restore to - but all the instructions (Apple and Parallels) say to locate the file you want to restore. And that's my problem.

Does anyone know the answer to that question?

Appreciate all the feedback, and the time you both have taken to comment.

But I really need to know where Apple and Parallels save the data files on the TM backup.

there is one mare possible tragic flaw in all of this. Time machine backup up Mac-formatted drivers, ONLY. it does not back up Windows-format drives.

th exception is the virtual drive is created inside an expandable image-file on a Mac Volume, the Mac Volume (that holds the windows format drive inside a Mac file)can the saved with Time machine.

The other alternative is not a Time Machine solution at all.

inside Parallels, you find the 2024 backups you expected to make manually, and just Open that older one as your Quicken data-file.

NB>> The presentation you posted shows a list of those backups, but sorted in 'sort by OLDEST' order. I see 2019, 2020, and others, but 2023 will be W-A-Y down the list

To sort them correctly, you need to click on the 'date' column to toggle 'sort by oldest'/'sort by newest' -- to get the NEWEST to the top of the list.

if you have a newish one that is dated before you did the update, just open that, and if it is correct, live happily ever after.

thanks again -

I debated whether to post that screenshot for fear of confusing the issue. I did include it only to show how the QDFs are saved in the C: drive - mostly to illustrate the path at the top of that shot.

Oh if only life were that easy. The 2024 folder is gone as are all the backups from Feb 2023 - present

Sorry if my posts haven't been clear - NP on this end with the sort function (as well as search, etc.). The newest one IS Feb 2023. I'm quite certain of that at this point.

I do sincerely appreciate your suggestions, but all of them were done well before I posted my dilemma.

thanks again.

You really saved me.

Finally had a response from Parallels that confirmed I needed to restore the VM. It only took them 6 days and half a dozen support requests from me to come up with this gem.

But they too missed the key part - to locate the VM in Finder BEFORE going into TM and restoring. So close yet so far away.

Anyway just wanted to thank you again. God bless you and all the support communities out there.
