This situation is tricky because without the recovery key, regaining access to your MacBook Air and your data on the Macintosh HD drive will be difficult. Here are your options:
1. Check for an Institutional Recovery Key:
This applies if your MacBook Air is managed by a school, company, or other organization. They might have set up an Institutional Recovery Key. Contact your IT department and see if they can help you unlock the drive.
2. Reinstall macOS (Erase Data):
This is a last resort, as it will erase all your data on the Macintosh HD. However, you can reinstall macOS and start fresh. And if you have an up-to-date Time Machine backup, you can then restore from there.
Here's how to do it:
Boot into Recovery Mode: Restart your MacBook Air while holding down Command (⌘) + R keys.
Select "Reinstall macOS" from the Utilities menu.
Follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the operating system.
Important Note: Before reinstalling, make sure you have a recent backup of your data if possible.
For future reference, it's crucial to keep your recovery key safe. You can find information on how to create and manage it here: [https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252692262](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252692262)
