How to fix slow network connection on MacBook Pro.

Both, my MacBook Pro and my iMac 27" are connected to the same wired network but, when testing internet speed with speedtest, my notebook results and 10% of what I get on my iMac.

Everything seems to be the same between por devices.

This also happens with WiFi connected to the same network.

Does anybody know what could be happeneing and how to fix it?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Users sometimes forget the computer does what you SAY, not what you WANT.

Packets going toward the internet are sent to the TOPMOST, Working, interface shown in the ORDERED list at settings/system Preferences > Network

if Ethernet is not TOPMOST, Ethernet is NOT being used.

if you would like to adjust the order, use the gear/... icon below the list to "set service Order' and drag Ethernet TOPMOST.

You should never have to do this again. At the coffee shop, Ethernet will not be also Working, so it will be skipped and the next working interface will be used instead.

Most users 'who find their WiFi speeds and Ethernet speeds are indistinguishable' are making a cockpit error, and not testing the interface they thought they were testing.

This is most often caused by "service order" issues, which I why I was nagging you about service order above.

There are Wi-Fi setups that can provide speeds as high as 800 M bits/sec.

Both computers are hardwired via switch.

iMac downloads over 900 and uploads around 850.

MacBook downloads at best 95 and uploads at 96.

My service is for 900 Mbps.

MacBook Pro

iMac

Testing over wifi is a little slower, 800 and 600 on iMac, and 80 and 78 upload.

As for what Grant Bennet-Alder suggests, Ethernet is at the top of the list. Wifi it's even under USB connections.

Thanks guys for your help trying to find out whats going on and what to do.
