wireless charger works in car (w/ CarPlay, cigarette lighter) but not plugged into standard outlet (w/ charging block)
I have an iPhone 13 Pro. Wired charging has been flaky lately; I assume I need to take the phone into an Apple Store and have the charging port cleaned, but right now I'm out of town and that is not an option. Therefore wired charging is currently not an option.
I have a wireless charger and USB charging cable in my rental car...it's currently plugged into the cigarette lighter, and it works fine/charges when I'm driving. However, if I bring the wireless charger and USB charging cable into my hotel room, it doesn't work (of course, instead of using the cigarette lighter adapter, I'm using a standard charging block plugged into a wall socket). So...same wireless charger, same USB cable that plugs into the wireless charger, but a cigarette lighter adapter vs. charging block. (I can sometimes get it to start charging for 1/2 second, i.e. the background of the % Charged indicator briefly turns green, but then quickly stops charging).
Why doesn't the latter work but the former reliably does?
Other info:
* iOS: 17.5.1
* the charging block is from Apple. I can use it to charge my iPad just fine.
* I've read the advice online such as (a) restart the phone (which I did), (b) remove the phone case (tried it), (c) reposition the phone (tried it), and (d) make sure the charger is in a cool location (not a problem in the hotel room). But again...it works fine in the car, so (b), (c), and (d) aren't the source of the problem.
* The rental car has Apple CarPlay (which of course I don't use in the hotel room). I hope that connecting to CarPlay hasn't somehow impacted the phone's ability to recharge when it's not on CarPlay...
I've found a lot of people online that have problems charging when CarPlay is in use, but mine is the opposite...it only seems to charge when I'm in the car and CarPlay is engaged (but CarPlay might be red herring).
