iPhone 14 Pro Max is not charging wirelessly when the MagSafe compatible leather waller is attached.

This week (3 Feb 2023) I bought an iPhone 14 Pro Max along with the compatible MagSafe compatible Leather Wallet with Find My support. All bought through the official Apple online shop. I also bought a MagSafe compatible leather case from them.

I want to charge my iPhone using the official Apple MagSafe adapter that came with my iPhone 12. Unfortunately when the wallet is attached to the phone, it won't charge wirelessly.

The MagSafe powers supply is an official apple one which was bought from Apple with an iPhone 12 Pro Max. It's using the official Apple USB "C" 9.0V==2.2A (18 Watts) power supply. My phone software is up-to-date, running iOS 16.3

This is what I have tried:

1) The iPhone detects the wallet whenever it is attached. "Find My" works.

But the phone does not charge wirelessly.

2) The phone charges fine when on the MagSafe charger without the wallet.

3) The phone charges fine when the Apple leather MagSafe Case is on the phone.

4) I have tried changing power supply, including an official Apple 30 Watt charger.

5) I have tried a non-Apple brand wireless charger and get the same results as 1-3 above. I.e. the phone charges with the MagSafe compatible case, but not with the MagSafe compatible Wallet

6) After going through all of the above, I concluded that it must be the Apple Leather Mag Safe compatible Wallet which is defective, So I went through the after-sales service and received a new leather wallet the next day (well done Apple). - I have to return the old one to avoid being charged. I attached the new wallet and went through all of the steps 1 to 5 above with exactly the same result. The phone simply won't charge wirelessly when the wallet is attached, whether the phone is in its leather case or not.

Since my phone charges fine when just the Mag-Safe compatible leather case is attached, it seems like both phone and charger are working fine.

Before I ask for my my money back, does the community have any suggestions?

Does anyone else have the same problem?

You're welcome. A MagSafe Wallet is a convenience accessory, which will attach to the back of a MagSafe case. It does not mean it permits the phone to be charged with the accessory attached. And as you've learned, it indeed does not permit charging while attached.

Apple can send you a hundred wallet cases. Not one of them will let you charge your iPhone with the case attached.

It's not supposed to charge with an accessory attached to the MagSafe case. Remove the wallet when you want to charge your iPhone and once charged, put the wallet back on. Your expectation the wireless charge should somehow be able to get through the wallet and it's contents in the wallet to the charger in the phone is unrealistic. In other words, what you are expecting isn't supported.

Thanks for that. @lobsterghost1, Iwas under the mistaken impression that "MagSafe compatible" meant that it was compatible with the MagSafe charger. Apparently not. It seems that Apple Tech support are under the same wrong impression as I. I spent half an hour on the phone with them trying to make it work. In the end, they said it must be defective and sent me a new one.

It's a pity Apple Tech Support didn't tell me what you just said, instead of trying to make it work, and finally sending me a replacement. I wish that for the sake of clarity Apple had specified that "MagSafe compatible" only referred to the fact that it will magnetically attach to the back of the case, but unlike the "MagSafe" case, the wallet does not allow charging.

iPhone 14 Pro Max is not charging wirelessly when the MagSafe compatible leather waller is attached.
