My iMac has stopped connecting with my HP printer.

After a year and a half my iMac has suddenly stopped connecting with my HP 7100 series printer. Both the printer and the iMac are connecting perfectly with WiFi and the printer has continued connecting and printing with another computer.

I have tried everything suggested by both Apple and HP - going into Wi-Fi on My Settings and clicking on Networks and when the Printer details come up in the networks section I click on that and say to Connect. It asks for a W2P password and I enter the one which is given as the Password on the touch screen on the Printer. I have tried every other password associated with both the printer, the W-Fi and the computer. It will not accept any of those and therefore I keep going around in circles. I have checked 'Location' and pretty much everything else that has been suggested - turning everything off, turning on again etc. When I go into Printer in My Settings it tells me that the HP 7100 series is Idle and the default printer, but that it is Out of Paper. Can anyone help? I really need to be able to use the printer from my iMac.

Thank you!

Another method of connecting the printer is using it IP address which you can get from the printer. Consult your printer manual or look up the network setting on the printer directly.

Then connect the printer on the Mac using the IP address, this process is explained below:

  1. Open up Apple System Settings.
  2. Click Printers and Scanners.
  3. Click the lower right where it says Add Printer, Scanner or Fax
  4. Click Globe symbol in the next window (it's the center icon).
  5. Type in the IP Address or Hostname (example: 111.11.111.11) in the Address field.

Thank you again. That sounded really promising.

I did it and then clicked to add a printer. It came back saying Setting up HP Envy Photo 7100 series ...

then it said "Unable to communication with the printer at this time. Unable to connect to Hp Envy Photo 7100 series (B145E)._ipps._tcp due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?"

I pressed Continue.

It then came up saying. "An error occurred while trying to add the selected device. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time."

Any other suggestions?
