Can't recover storage space from Bootcamp partition

I'm trying to delete the bootcamp partition from my macbook and transfer that storage space to my regular Mac HD, but can't seem to do so. Which is frustrating because now I don't have enough space to download the latest Mac OS update. Any help would be appreciated - screenshots are attached to show my disk utility page where I'm stuck on next steps. I saw another post that said I needed to click on partition and then click on the (-) button when bootcamp is highlighted, but I can't click on that so am stuck.

Use the bootcamp assistant app , do it like if you going to create the usb installer because before that if you had windows before then bootcamp will delete that partition and resize the HDD see this from Apple

Remove Windows from your Mac using Boot Camp

You must use Boot Camp Assistant to remove Windows, or a partition that was created with Boot Camp Assistant, from your Intel-based Mac.

WARNING: Do not use any other utilities to remove Windows or a partition that was created with Boot Camp.

  1. Start up your Mac in macOS.
  2. Back up all important data stored on your Windows partition before you remove Windows.
  3. WARNING: When Windows is removed, the Windows partition—as well as all data stored in the partition—is erased permanently.
  4. Quit all open apps and log out any other users.
  5. Open Boot Camp Assistant , then click Continue.
  6. If the Select Tasks step appears, select “Remove Windows 10 or later version,” then click Continue.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • If your Mac has a single internal disk, click Restore.
    • If your Mac has multiple internal disks, select the Windows disk, select “Restore disk to a single macOS partition,” then click Continue.

It appears you may have tried remove Windows or re partition the drive without using Boot Camp Assistant to do so. Can you click on "Continue"?

Remove Windows from your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support

If you tried removing Windows or partitioning the drive without using Boot Camp Assistant, you will have to erase the entire drive and reinstall the MacOS.

Thanks for the response Bob. When I click continue, the last image is the message I get. Regarding trying to previously remove Windows, I think that's probably true as I tried everything to fix the issue so probably messed up there. If I have to erase the drive and reinstall the MacOS, does that mean I'll lose everything on my computer? If so, sounds like I kind of screwed myself.
