Photos and folders missing from Photos

MacBook Pro, Sonoma 14.5.

My MacBook has deleted all but 10 photos from Photos app. All “My Albums” albums are gone. It’s not curation —. I’m viewing entire library, All Items.

I have 3 Apple devices. All 3 have iCloud on for Photos. I confirmed this. Weirdly, my iPhone and iPad have all my albums, and seem to have all photos, in Photos app. MacBook Pro does not. This is ridiculous s. BTW many photos originated on MacBook Pro.

Help.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

  1. On Mac, check Settings, Apple ID, verify that you are signed into iCloud with the same Apple ID as in use on the other devices where your photos are all appearing properly; verify that iCloud is checked on for Photos.
  2. In Photos on Mac, check Preferences, General, verify that the Photos Library you are using is the System Library for the Mac. "Use as System Library" will be greyed out if you are already using it in Photos. If in doubt, note the System Library file there, go to it in Finder, quit Photos app, then right click on that System Library file and select Open with Photos.
  3. With that System Library opened in Photos, scroll to the bottom, you should see Updated Just Now.
  4. In Photos, Preferences, choose iCloud, verify that iCloud Photos is checked on.
  5. Another step you can take: on the Mac, log out of Apple ID. Shut down the Mac. Wait about 30 seconds. Then restart and log back into the Apple ID you are using on the other devices where all the photos show up properly. You can then go through steps 1-4 above again.
