Hello, I’ve recently noticed that i had a lot of photos and unnecessary things uploaded to my family icloud. I tried to delete my notes and my photos that were being saved to icloud, i thought that the thing that would be deleted is the things that are in icloud and not on my phone. It deleted all my notes and photos, i tried restoring my photos and it worked but i cannot get my notes back and i need them. Is there anyway to get them restored? I tried searching it up but nothing. Another problem is was having was i noticed when i was trying to delete everything (photos wise) on the icloud account (not trying to delete these photos on my phone) it deleted everything. When you have photos synced through iCloud Photos, a request to delete them on any device, or to delete them from iCloud, is taken as a request to delete them everywhere.

You cannot change this behavior. You can turn iCloud Photos off on a per-device basis, but then the devices that are not synchronizing with iCloud Photos will not automatically send new photos to other devices – or receive new photos from other devices. Likewise, you can have multiple Photos libraries on a Mac – but only one of them can synchronize with iCloud Photos. The others are strictly local and will not synchronize with your other devices.

You can turn on Optimize iPhone Storage in Photos Settings. This gives your iPhone permission to substitute low-quality local copies of photos and videos for full-size copies when you start to run out of device storage. The idea is that since iCloud always has full-size copies, your phone can re-download full-size copies later. But you must let the system do the management (like an automatic transmission choosing gears), and not do manual deletions that are going to be interpreted as requests to delete photos everywhere.

By

  • Disconnecting your phone from iCloud Photos
  • Using some device that still is connected to iCloud Photos – or a Web browser – to delete all of the photos in your iCloud Photos account.

Then

  • None of the photos from your phone will synchronize to any of your other devices, and vice versa
  • All of your photos will now be in one fragile, easily-lost-or-stolen basket (your phone), unless you thought to make backups of your photos on a computer before deleting them from iCloud Photos
  • It will be a very good idea to make sure that your iPhone is set to make backups to iCloud and to include your photos in the backup. Note that backups may take longer, because now your phone might be forced to copy photos each and every time it makes a backup; instead of doing incremental updates. Also, do not expect to free up any iCloud space. You'll need all of the space from deleting your iCloud Photos library - and perhaps then some - to store your larger iCloud iPhone backups.

If you are thinking of doing this, I would suggest reading Apple's Support article very carefully to make sure that you do not lose photos or videos by turning off iCloud Photos in an improper way.

Other cloud services (like Google Photos) may have different rules.

You do need to be very careful about using synchronization to two (or more) cloud services at the same time. If you are, say, synchronizing both to iCloud Photos and to Google Photos, and start deleting photos to reduce your usage of Google cloud storage space – guess what? You weren't keeping photos safe in iCloud as you deleted them from Google's cloud. You were deleting them from both places.
