Pressure Sensitivity - iPad not Pencil Problem

Hello all,

I've done the usual scouring Google and the like and haven't come across an answer to this. I'm hoping someone in the community may be able to help.

My daughter and I both have iPads, both 8th generation and the same model number. We also both have 1st generation Apple Pencils (I only acquired mine recently as just got into digital art).

Being in the lucky position of having the two iPads and pencils, I have checked multiple times and found that pressure sensitivity works on her iPad with both pencils, and neither pencil on mine. I can draw with the pencils on my iPad, but it comes out always as though I am pressing very lightly, and even very hard pressure does not alter the shading level.

I have looked online and seen suggestions to adjust the pressure slider for the pencil, but this option doesn't appear. I have checked everything is up to date. There have been no issues with touch on my iPad otherwise, such as being unresponsive etc. I have tried with and without screen protector, and have the exact same screen protector as my daughter.

If anybody can shed any light on this, I would be very grateful, as I am at a loss and would very much like to be able to benefit from the pressure sensitivity when using Procreate. Thank you.

Pressure is sensed by the Pencil - not the iPad screen.

Having tested with two Pencil's with your iPad - and the same Pencil's with your daughter's iPad (using the same Apps) - you have demonstrated that the problem lies with your iPad.

Begin with a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

Otherwise, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad - and you can explore your available options:
