iPadOS 17 Audio Routing Problems - USB Input disabled if output is through another device
I have an iPad Air 4th Gen on iPadOS 17.5.1. I regularly use Switcher Studio, a video production/livestreaming app. For my regular workflow, my go-to audio interface is Zoom H6, via VAVA/Hyperdrive USB-C hub and HDMI out to a streaming encoder (VidiU Go).
Prior to iPadOS 17, my workflow has been rock solid. Audio input from H6 to the iPad, and HDMI video+audio out through the same USB-C port. However, with iPadOS 17, the iPad blocks the USB audio input if I try to switch the audio output to HDMI or headphone jack on the hub.
I am certain that it is an iPadOS 17 issue, because I have 2 other iPads (Air 4 and iPad Pro '18) that are still on iPadOS 16 and they are functioning normally. I have also done a fresh restore of this iPad to rule out any installation issues, but problem persists.
This matter has been reported to Apple as well. No response for months. Keen to find out if anyone else is suffering from this problem, and what are your workarounds.
On a side note, macOS Sonoma also has problems routing input & output to separate devices on a single USB-C hub, but Macs usually have multiple USB ports so I was able to work around it.
