Cancelling subscriptions immediately

I want to cancel an annual subscription that will renew in a few months time right now and change to a new plan in a different region. I don't want a refund for the amount leftover in the subscription. I just want to change it now.


And there is no way to do that. Apple support told me that I have to submit a refund request, and if it is denied I will HAVE to wait until this subscription runs out before changing. I am literally telling them the they can keep that money. But I am now bound to wait until this one runs out.


This is a major flaw in apple's subscription management. I will never purchase a long term subscription from the App Store ever again.

Thank you for your reply. I’m not changing the region of my App Store. I am just getting a subscription to an app in a different region. The app is geolocked, and the subscription offers different content based on the country that the subscription is purchased in. My original annual subscription was purchased in a different country and the one I’m trying to change to is in a different country that I am in right now. Does this apply to that this situation as well?

Yes I have been on chat with them. They told me that they are not seeing any option to terminate my subscription on their end. I have cancelled it on my end already.

I explained the situation to them, the app in question and the change needed. I went back to the chat after I got replies to this post and asked them again, and they reiterated their position that if the refund request is denied I will have to wait. They even apologised for this issue in apple’s subscription management and created a feedback to Apple on my behalf for the same. They have scheduled a call with a senior manager tomorrow however.

If your are changing to a subscription in a different country your account will have to be set to that country. You are--or will need to--change country settings. The support article Change your Apple ID country or region - Apple Support describes how to change your country setting on everything using your Apple ID, and the requirements and results of doing this.

Apple can stop a subscription immediately when you want to change your region. Contact Apple again:

Since they suggested a refund request, it sounds like they did not understand what you were trying to accomplish. Simply tell them that you want your subscription cancelled immediately because you need to change your region. You will need to cancel the subscription first on your end and then they cancel the remainder to allow you to change your region.

Subscriptions will continue until the expiration date. Canceling them just tells them not to renew after that date. To have it end before that date you need to contact Apple and explain you need it to end immediately.
