How Does One OVERLAY Multiple Midi Recordings Of An Instrument On The Same Track?

Hello, everyone. I don't imagine this won't be too difficult a query to answer, but alas, I don't know the answer to it, so here I am. :)

When I record a midi instrument - let's say of a midi piano track - and I want to play another take on top of what I just performed on the very same track...how do I get Logic to simply record what I play over the top of what I've already recorded and not erase or replace what I previously performed with the new recording?

Hope that makes sense.

In other words, I'll lay down a midi track, and then when I go back to, say, add some additional notes over the top of what I already recorded, I press record, and when I do that, the record function begins to REPLACE what I previously performed.

Very frustrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much in advance!

Hey Javier72...Disclaimer: I am in an airport now and would need to wait until i get home to confirm this actually works). However based on my recording experience I would try this.

Go to Record, then "Overlapping Midi Recordings".

If you're having the problem then I imagine you're seeing a check mark next to "Replace".

If it is the case... try selecting with your mouse "Overlap"

First and foremost, thank you very much for responding, Mike. Really appreciate it. I did a workaround by copying the track over again on to another channel, doing the edits on the new channel, and then simply copy/pasting the new midi notes onto the old ones. It works, but it's basically a pretty annoying work around - especially considering that it would seem that there should be a pretty easy manner that would allow one to press the record button on a midi track w/previously recorded midi notes on it and NOT have those notes all erased in the process, you know?

Taking a quick break from the work I'm doing in Logic, but when I get back to it, I'm going to delve more deeply into your suggestion and see what happens.

Thanks again! :)
