Local Calendar and Notes are gone after synching Messages app to my iPhone

Background: I had been using the Messages app on my iPhone as well as on my Macbook, but text messages were sometimes only showing up on one device or the other, and I was therefore missing important text messages.

To fix that problem, I followed a tutorial that guided me through the process of synching my iPhone and Macbook Messages app. However, once I did that, my Notes app (which I only really use on my Macbook) was overwritten by the few random notes I had entered on my iPhone, and so I lost my entire collection of important notes. This is bad. I also lost all my Calendar events and labels (Calendar is another app that I primarily use on my Macbook). This is really bad.

I am so upset that I can't seem to reverse the synch that I did. I've since decided to just remove the Messages app completely from my Macbook, so that texts only go to and from my phone.

My problem: I'd really love to be able to restore the lost data to my Calendar and Notes app, from the time before I unwittingly synched them with my phone. I've tried restoring the calendar from iCloud without success, and nothing I do seems to be working. I can't figure out if Time Machine might have an earlier snapshot of the apps that I can use to restore them. I don't even know how to use Time Machine to be honest.

I just want my Calendar and Notes back. Can anyone help?

Setting up iCloud Syncing for messages should have no effect on Notes or really anything else on your iPhone.

I suspect you may somehow have deleted the account your messages were saved to or turned off Notes for that account. Go to Settings>Mail>Accounts and see if you notice anything missing. Check that everything has Notes turned on.

What tutorial did you follow? Knowing exactly what you did might help us figure out what went wrong.

Go to the Settings app on the phone and check to see what accounts are active. This has nothing to do with the settings within apps.

Regarding that tutorial... I think I would rather have dug out my eyes with a spoon. He seriously overcomplicated everything and tried to make it sound so difficult probably because the whole point of that video is to get you to use his consulting services. But, to be fair, it's not incorrect. There is absolutely nothing in those directions that would have any effect on Notes or Calendar. So, I really don't know what you did. Sorry.

Again, go to Settings>Calendar and Settings>Notes and make sure you didn't accidentally remove any accounts.

I have a few gmail accounts plus my phone number that were all clicked on as he suggested. I generally avoid synching and I also avoid using iCloud becuase it generally messes everything up, but I guess you could say I had a lapse in judgment and now I am kicking myself for ever caring about being able to text from my computer.

I've tried to go into Settings in the Notes app and Calendar app, and even iCloud for that matter, to find my missing notes/ events that I only created on my Macbook. Nothing is working so far.

Thanks very much for trying to help.

I only created the notes locally on my Macbook, not on iCloud. Same thing with my calendar events. So I can't recover them from iCloud. I will go through Settings and accounts again. I am feeling resigned to the idea that I may have to start my notes from scratch, and repopulate my calendar with all the events that were in there.

Cheers.
