so on my ipad, sometimes i forget to turn it off (i have a flap case so it should usually turn off on its own) and it just stays on for hours and hours. One night, I forgot to turn it off and it stayed on the entire night. Is there a certain setting I could turn on to make it turn off after like 10min?

Do you mean you can't turn the device off? Or do you mean that the screen is not locking? If you mean the screen isn't locking, go to Settings>Display & Brightness>Auto-lock and set it for your preferred duration.
If this is a third-party case, it's possible that it's somehow interfering with the expected behavior. Take the case off and test.
