I can't use my iPhone XR to tap and pay

I have my card loaded into the wallet and I can use ApplePay for things like paying for parking but I can't tap with the phone. I go through the process and get the message to hold the phone near the card reader but it won't pay. My bank assure me that nothing is wrong on there end and suggest it might be an issue with my phone. Any ideas?

Please contact Apple Support and request remote diagnostics and specifically the NFC module. If you’re in the US please call 1-800-MY-APPLE or outside the US, consult the support article below.

Some cases may interfere as well, but if it’s inconvenient to remove, you can make an appointment for the Genius Bar and they can do additional testing including the NFC module.
