Face ID or double clicking requires assistive touch

I am using iOS 17.5.1 on an iPhone 13 Pro Max

Instead of using Face ID automatically for a download or purchase, my iPhone keeps asking me to use assistive touch. I have looked at dozens of entries and articles but can’t figure out why I can’t just use Face ID or double click the way I did before

The sub-menu for setting face ID is missing. I use an iPhone 15 version OS 18.5, I want to delete or add face ID but there is no menu to manage face ID in Face ID & Passcode. Content & Privacy restrictions screen time conditions no blocking. Anyone know why? is it a bug in OS 18.5?

Is the top button double-click speed maybe set a little too fast?

Settings > Accessibility > Top Button > Slowest

For Face ID:

Settings > Face ID & Passcode > iTunes & App Store > On

Thanks, I actually had to turn off confirm with assist touch
