why cant i pair my apple watch 8 to phone

So, i just brought an apple watch 8. Before i did i checked the apple pages for compatibility. It clearly states the Apple watch 8 needs Ios 16 or higher. I have an Iphone X, with 16 on so should work, BUT when i try to pair it says i need 17 or higher to pair a new watch!!!

How is this right, i check to make sure my phone works, spend money on the watch and now i cannot use it.

There is no way to speak to apple about this either, im just so angry

If you are buying a new Apple Watch, it comes with the newest possible watchOS installed, which in this case is watchOS 10. And this version requires an iPhone XS or later, which has iOS 17 installed.

However, you should try to contact the official Apple Support or visit an Apple Store next to your place and explain your iPhone situation. There have been cases, in which Apple downgraded the watchOS on an Apple Watch, if the user did not have an iPhone that could be paired with the factory installed watchOS.
