Axxxxx number for battery replacement

Hei!

My second working laptop is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), number A1398, still working great (thanks Apple) apart from the poor battery that I replaced. However, the battery I replaced is not of good quality apparently and has to be replaced again. The company that sells it asks me to provide with the "A number" of the original battery, which of course I don't have since I threw it away (I broke it during the replacement).

Is it possible to find this number? I guess it is a series number of Mac batteries. I cannot find many info online.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.7

"A number" of the original battery

A1494

“This battery (A1494) is only compatibility with Apple Macbook Pro 15.4 Inch Retina A1398 (EMC 2674), A1398 (EMC 2745) (Late 2013) and A1398 (EMC 2876), A1398 (EMC 2881) (Mid 2014).”

(The EMC Number is more precise for a model, in this case. A1398 matches 21 models across 4 years.)

You do not need that number.

Look to OWC/MacSales for battery replacement:

It is never a good sign if the seller cannot get the information themselves from knowing the exact model of the laptop. Plus, the seller should have a record of the previous sale anyway.

+1 for OWC. Even iFixIt would be acceptable. These are the only two vendors I trust to provide a chance at a decent Lithium battery when an OEM battery is unavailable.
